Salmon fishing on the river Gaula!

June is the time when some of the big, silvery salmon that Norway is famous for enter the rivers. Gaula river, just one hour drive south of Trondheim, is one of the very best angling rivers in Norway. Atlantic salmon is one of the most priced of all angling species, but catching a trophy fish is a task someone uses a lifetime to accomplish. Fishing is mostly done by fly or spoon, and often beats are specially designated for one type of tackle.

Salmon fishing in Norway are owned by the farmers and each river is parted into fishing beats. Some beats are managed as open public waters, where a fishing license cost around NOK 300 per day. Other beats have restricted number of rods and are normally hired on a weekly basis.

Conference participants are offered special prices in the Storen community, the centre for salmon fishing on the Gaula.

Licenses for the Fishing Association water at Storen give access to both fly and spoon pools, and there is no need to book in advance. Info on the fishing beats and updated prices for 2005 is found on the fishing association’s webpage; www.storenjff.org (Norwegian only).

The Norwegian Flyfisher’s Club, http://www.nfc-online.com/ offer fly fishing on beats with restricted numbers of rods. Conference participants are offered a special price at 10 % discount. The Club has very experienced guides and you can hire tackle directly with them, to reduce needed luggage. Interested conference participants should as soon as possible contact the Club via its webpage.

Both for those wanting to fish association waters and those trying the flyfishing club, accommodation in the legendary Storen hotel is offered at favourable prices. Contact the hotel directly with reference to the conference at; http://www.gauldal.no/english/eng.htm
